I saw this article yesterday in thew WSJ suggesting that Salesforce is working with some large beta clients on a new product that lives on the Amazon servers. The “Internet of things” app (see a couple of posts ago) will be built and housed on AWS. The reasoning, given by SF Execs is that they’re growing fast, and need to have a safety valve, but that seems odd to me. Doesn’t salesforce essentially compete with AWS?
No, I get that Heroku lives on AWS, but I always assumed that after the buyout, SF would move that – not so much, so I guess my question is how do you rely on your competitors for critical services?
I guess my reluctance to do something like that explains why I don’t run a $10B business…
