I’m not sure who coined the term “Internet of Things” but wow, could you be any more vague?! When you really get to the bottom of what the term means, it has some pretty good substance to it. But I’ll be honest, until someone actually broke it down for me I had no idea what the heck the Internet of Things was! Turns out, as Salesforce explains, it is more about data than things. It’s about tracking data from “things” such as medical devices, or any device that can be connected to the internet via a WiFi chip, and being able to use that data to detect when there are potential issues or a need for action, so that you can be pro-active, instead of re-active. It really is pretty cool when you think about it. The ability to be alerted when a device is falling below an acceptable performance level so that a repair can be completed before the customer even knows there is an issue.
Businesses can benefit tremendously from having this predictive, actionable data at their fingertips. Lower downtimes, less support call volume, the list goes on. Talk about having a competitive edge…this is the way to go. Click here to read more….
